Now in its third iteration at the Muckenthaler Center in Fullerton, this lively exhibition comes from the mind of arts writer Bondo Wyszpolski, curating a massive group show.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Each artist created an original piece for the exhibition, which began by chosen artists being encouraged to think outside their usual brush strokes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.diversionsla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_9798-rotated.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17028\" src=\"https:\/\/www.diversionsla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_9798-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.diversionsla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_9798-rotated.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.diversionsla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_9798-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.diversionsla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_9798-144x192.jpg 144w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Wyszpolski laid down a challenge to make the work unlike each artist\u2019s usual style or technique, or to use different materials. He provided random, quirky titles for each to work from. Their titles were assigned with the spin of a wheel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.diversionsla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_9765.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" (above, left) was inspired to take this unusual curatorial path after seeing what he felt was one too many shows on his home turf in the beach cities with \u201csunsets and the beach and the cliffs of Palos Verdes and pets and flowers&#8230;\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.diversionsla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_9775-rotated.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17020\" src=\"https:\/\/www.diversionsla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_9775-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He relates that \u201cwho we thought of and invited to participate was done randomly. Sort of like, \u2018Hmm, how about if I ask so-and-so?\u2019 A few people declined, but most people said \u2018Yes! It sounds like a fun idea!\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">According to Wyszpolski \u201cWhat people will see who come to the show is how inventive artists are when you give them an offbeat title, although clearly some titles were much more offbeat than others, like Steve Shriver&#8217;s \u2018Who&#8217;s Whistling at My Antiquities?\u2019 or Ross Moore&#8217;s \u2018I Could Tell She Was Mad By the Way She Parked Her Car\u2019 or Karen Wharton&#8217;s \u2018I Woke Up in King Kong&#8217;s Body.\u2019 But also what I discovered is that when all the artists with their unusual, whimsical, or surreal pictures are seen together it really is more than the sum of its parts&#8230; and I think it is an amusing and intriguing show. I was up for the idea, and since we knew the show would be on hold for quite a while, we were able to complete about 22 or 23 songs [now on the show\u2019s website].\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.diversionsla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_9749.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17039\" src=\"https:\/\/www.diversionsla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_9749.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"623\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.diversionsla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_9749.jpg 623w, https:\/\/www.diversionsla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_9749-292x300.jpg 292w, https:\/\/www.diversionsla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_9749-187x192.jpg 187w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 623px) 100vw, 623px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There are over 40 works by 35 artists in the show.
